Slik Helvetika was formed by Mik Myers in 2005, who had put the musical ambition away for a while after narrowly escaping the woes of being signed to a major label throughout the 80's. Mik led a band called Destroyer throughout the East coast U.S. Destroyer released a record distributed by Indie label "Important" and reached enough success to attract several major labels and NYC showcases. But the trends changed real fast. By the time of Destroyer's maturity.... Metal was out -Grunge was in and labels weren't signing bands like us anymore. Myers then made the decision not to follow a trend he had no passion for and took a musical vacation.
"Music was the one thing missing in my life through those years and I needed to make the fire burn again" The 2005 debut self titled disc was very simply Mik recording [with session players] the kind of music he liked & wrote with no cares of what trend was popular. The disc got alot of attention and charted on college. It was apparent other people also missed real rock like this and a permanant band was formed to support the Slik Helvetika vision.
The EP KK-5 is comprised of left over songs from the debut CD that had a more aggressive feel and bizarre humored skits.
Influences best pointed at are: Milton the toaster, Halford, early Van Halen, R.Rhoads, Zak Wyld, Butch Walker, Sweet and Queen.
Band personalities...
Myers is a goal driven, raging lunatic who is only serious 4 to 5 minutes a day and runs the operation like a disciplined dictator and is real serious about hurting himself doing dangerous sports.
Bennet is attending the Myers school of lunacy with many questions, comments and concerns.
The Oogle likes lager, wears a kilt with motocross boots, [sharp dresser] He can yodel when he decides to and has similar temperment to a Viking.
The live show has always been our biggest asset. Fans say it's like being hit by a freight train. Our live sound makes the disc sound tiny. We are in your face and are in audio/visual assault mode. "live..... we are putting out enough energy to run a whole city with every song" Myers says: " I am completely exhausted and spent after a live show ..the intensity takes alot out of us, some of the physical sports I do take less out of me than a Slik show" We often knock each others instruments out of tune during colisions when we don't have a big stage. We play a metal version of "stayin' alive" by the Bee Gees just to F*** with people and make it mandatory to have a good time.
We are looking at options to get on a tour in'08 and we hit the studio to begin recording our full length new disc tentatively titled "Slik,Six,Six" in January 2008. We again have alot of material to choose from. It is "up in the air" what label will get the disc right now. We are also talking about licensing our underground self titled debut, so you'll be hearing and seeing more from us very soon.
The band's name means eat the Wovenesta in Sianese. [just kidding... it does not] First of all it sounds cool. Now, every one has a homework assignment and should find out what Confoederatio Helvetica means in Latin, why the Helvetican warriors were thought to be invincible in the 1500s and which Helvetii tribe made captive Roman soldiers pass under the yoke upon the victory in the battle of Gaul which enraged Caesar.
